Stepan, the Cat from Ukraine with Over a Million Instagram Fans, Finds Safety in Monaco
Stepan, an Instagram-famous cat from Ukraine with 1.3 million followers on the platform, is best known for amusing photos posted by his owner Anna featuring his signature pose – imposingly sits at the table, leaning on his elbow – exactly like a human.
In March, the pet was forced to escape from the war in Ukraine, leave his home city Kharkiv, and find his first safety in Monaco.
As the war started, fans were worried about Stepan and Anna when their Instagram account was not active. After a two-week silence, Anna informed their followers with a message letting them know that she and Stepan were safe and had found refuge in Europe after leaving Ukraine.
“It was a long and challenging way for us to leave Kharkiv, which was permanently under missile attacks. Monaco was the first place in Europe we reached and found shelter. We lived there for two months and got a lot of help, support, and care from the locals. And we are heartfelt grateful for our safety. In this fabulous place, we felt totally secure and protected. The beauty of nature, mountains, and sea, the city’s impressive architecture, and the amazing atmosphere helped us recover from all the horror we went through. Monaco is a piece of heaven on earth. I’m dreaming all the countries in the world, and Ukraine, of course, becomes so safe and trustworthy.” Anna shares her impressions of Monaco.
Since finding refuge, Stepan and Anna have done a great job using the Instagram platform and have raised thousands of euros for charity to provide aid for animals affected by the war in Ukraine.
